Macros next step

Series of 3 training webinars (attend any or all)

     Duration: 60 minutes each
     Format: Interactive webinar

Take your macro development to the next level. Discover how to construct helpful functions and forms, and create macros that control other applications. Learn about features of the Visual Basic Environment that you are not able to access with recorded macros.

Excel macros next step – part 1
Drawing on the skills learnt in the Excel macros introduction webinar series, develop additional strategies to process worksheets and user entry.

  • Use a For…Each loop to protect sheets.
  • Understand object variables and variable types.
  • Use a Do…Until loop to prompt the user until the input is acceptable.
  • Create a custom function (User Defined Function) to use in an Excel formula.
  • Apply If…Then…Else logic to return the correct result.
  • Test and observe the function code.
Excel macros next step – part 2
Construct a UserForm and apply event procedures to enable drop-down lists, option buttons, and command buttons. See how to transfer data into the UserForm and return data to the spreadsheet.

  • Arrange the controls by using the tools available in the Visual Basic Editor.
  • Use event procedures to dynamically change the content of a drop-down list according to the chosen option button.
  • Use range techniques to identify the data range on the spreadsheet.
  • Transfer data from the spreadsheet into the UserForm.
  • Check the entered values and prompt if entries are invalid.
  • Transfer data from the UserForm to the spreadsheet.
Excel macros next step – part 3
Use query techniques to get data from an external source. See how to interface to another application by setting a reference and referring to application objects.

  • Apply a query to a spreadsheet range.
  • Alter the query to retrieve different data.
  • Refresh PivotTables and charts to represent the changed data source.
  • Create a reference to Microsoft Outlook as an external application.
  • Use the Object Model of Microsoft Outlook to create and send emails by using data from an Excel spreadsheet.

Ideally, you should be able to write short macros that work with selected or specified cells, as demonstrated in the previous Excel macros introduction webinar series.
Applies to all Excel versions including 2013, 2010 and 2007. Any differences are pointed out.

Live webinar format

Each webinar has a main presenter and a co-presenter, who share the presentation and question-answering. Having two makes it more engaging, and different viewpoints expressed makes it clearer.

There are a number of different AbleOwl presenters, all of whom are Excel specialists.

Excel versions

Unless specified otherwise, all webinars cover all current Excel versions from 2007 onwards. Any differences among versions are pointed out.
